Marty Pine grew up as a farmer’s son. That background gave him a deep appreciation for healthy soil long before it became a buzzword. To him, it’s always been the foundation that everything else on the land depends on.
After years working in business operations, Marty kept noticing the same issue: good organic material being generated by organisations and simply sent off to landfill. The waste of it frustrated him. So he decided to do something about it and founded Little Buddies.
Based in Cambridge, Little Buddies helps businesses and landowners across the Waikato and beyond turn their organic waste into a genuine resource. From local cafés and hospitality operators to corporates and working farms, they create practical composting and vermiculture solutions that are commercially realistic and actually deliver results.
What they offer:
Consulting and waste audits — Designing tailored solutions that treat organic waste as the valuable resource it is, while fitting real operational needs.
Managed operations — From staff coaching through to full on-site management of composting and worm-farming systems.
Waste brokerage — Connecting clients with trusted partners when off-site processing is the better option.
Soil health and regenerative agriculture support — Hands-on mentoring for farmers and landowners who want to reduce synthetic inputs, rebuild soil biology, improve nutrient cycling, and strengthen long-term land productivity.
Little Buddies started with local food waste collections around Cambridge and has grown steadily by keeping things straightforward and effective. They are now scaling up their vermiculture capacity to supply high-quality vermicast and support more regenerative farming in the region.
If you’re dealing with organic waste and looking for a practical, no-nonsense approach that makes both environmental and commercial sense, Marty is happy to have a conversation about it.
