EnviroConsult works with a diverse range of clients, from individual farm owners and multi-farm businesses through to large corporate enterprises, Māori and iwi organisations, and rural service businesses.
The work is equally varied. Freshwater Farm Plans, native planting, carbon, environmental strategy and project management all form part of the mix. EnviroConsult also operates its own native tree nursery, growing plants from locally eco-sourced seed and providing everything from planting advice through to complete planting projects.
Behind the business is founder James Gardner, who has spent more than 25 years working across New Zealand and Australian agriculture. Raised on a drystock farm in the Whitehall Valley near Cambridge and a Lincoln University graduate, James has held senior roles across rural banking, agribusiness and farm sustainability, including leading Ballance Farm Sustainability Services nationally.
That combination of practical farming knowledge, commercial experience and environmental expertise has helped shape EnviroConsult’s approach.
Rather than treating environmental work as a standalone compliance exercise, the aim is to understand how it fits within the wider farming business. Clients can engage EnviroConsult for a single piece of specialist advice or hand over an entire environmental project from initial planning through to implementation.
Ultimately, EnviroConsult is about making environmental work easier to navigate and easier to deliver – helping clients find the right balance between productive farming, good business and positive environmental outcomes.
